When a PTA examines a patient first, they help the physical therapist examine the person and create a treatment program supporting restored functions, being able to move, preventing impairment and pain reduction. Then, together, the physical therapist, Physical therapist assistant, and patient each work together to ensure the purpose of the therapy plan is achieved, measuring patient progression, reaction, and safety even while making adjustments as necessary.
