PTAs perform their services beneath the supervising and instruction of a licensed physical therapist. PTs rely greatly on their Physical therapy assistants, therefore it is important that a Physical therapist assistant can offer clients a comprehensive plan of physical therapy exercises. PTAs apply lots of physical therapy methods when taking care of clients. Several methods include deep soft tissue massage, therapeutic exercise, physical modalities such as ultrasound and electro therapy as well as functional exercises.

Additionally PTAs commonly assist their patients to avoid losing movement by implementing health and fitness workouts for more active healthier life styles. When a Physical therapy assistant sees a client first, the PTA helps the PT analyze the person and create a care plan supporting recovered functions, the ability to move, avoiding impairment and reducing discomfort. Then, as a team, the physical therapist, PTA, and client each work together to ensure the goals of the health program is achieved, calculating client progress, reaction, and safety while making modifications as needed.
