Clinical Experiences Students have 3 full-time (40 hours per/week) clinical experiences in the last 2 semesters of the program. All clinical sites are located in the capital area of Texas, and each student will receive experience in acute care, rehabilitation and outpatient. | ||
Faculty There are three full-time faculty members as well as a number of adjunct faculty. One is engaged in clinical practice. The faculty-to-student ratio is 1:13. | ||
Enrollment The college has a total enrollment of more than 45,000 students. The physical therapist assistant program accepts 20 students each year. Residency is not a factor in student selection. | ||
Admission All applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, meet academic eligibility requirements for college admissions, complete a total of at least 40 hours of documented volunteer/aide work from a physical therapy facility, complete the HOBET exam and attend a program information session. Prerequisites include: ENGL 1301 English Composition, PSYC 2301 Introduction to Psychology, BIOL 2304 Human Anatomy and a 3 hour college credit Math that meets the requirement for graduation. Applicants must also complete Introduction to PT and medical terminology. Applications are accepted year-round, with a deadline of May 18 for the following Fall class. Final selection is made by early June. Freshmen are admitted in August. The program includes five semesters: a prerequisite semester and fall and spring during both the first and second years. Degrees are from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. 65% of qualified applicants are admitted to the program (last 3-year average). | ||
Outcomes 91% of admitted students graduate from the program (3-year average). 90% of the graduates who have taken the licensure exam have passed the exam. | ||
Tuition, fees and financial aid Tuition and fees are determined by residency. The average cost per semester is $910 for in-district students, $1,250 for out-of-district students, and $2,450 for out-of-state and international students. Tuition and fees are subject to change. 75% of all PTA students receive some sort of financial aid. All financial aid inquiries should be addressed to the Financial Aid Office, Eastview Campus. | ||
Student life The college is located in the capital of Texas and has six full-time campuses and 40 teaching sites. All PTA courses are currently offered on the Eastview Campus in a new Health Sciences facility. Academic courses are offered at several campuses throughout the capital area. There are no dormitory facilities for the college, however many apartments are available in the area in the area. The college has a very strong student life program. Students will have the opportunity to participate in PTA club activities. |
